Downtown in the Morning

I took this at about 7 in the morning over the North Pond looking south into the city.

Red Envelope!

My brother sent me a monogrammed business card holder for my birthday. I didn't have a nice one before and will have this one for a long, long time. It's beautiful with brown leather and plaid in the inside and has a nice magnetic clasp. It's such a great gift.

Red Envelope has the best gifts and most creative packaging!

Moral of the story, sell your car, walk everywhere and work from home. Your carbon footprint will be non-existent like mine. You can find yours at http://www.earthlab.com/

Sleeponomics

OOooooOOOhhh. Sleep number beds for bulldogs?

“I’ve learned a lot about sleep from my dogs,” he said. For starters, all bulldogs appear to have sleep apnea. One of the two public relations officers supervising my visit jumped in: her dog’s sleep number is 10, she said; she sets her bed for him at night." NYT: The Sleep-Industrial Complex

Egg Pants

Der, because eggs need pants. Thanks to JoJoBiggity for sending this over to me.

Crazy Straws

Gotta love 'em. And, more importantly you've gotta love Wikipedia.

A "crazy" straw is hard plastic and has a number of twists and turns at the top. When liquid is sucked through the straw, it quickly flows through the winding path, creating an entertaining spectacle.

I think Wiki is an entertaining spectacle of itself!

Dinosaur Eggs

Not real Dinosaur eggs. Dinosaur eggs disguised as big zero's after a much anticipated weekend fell short.

The Cubbies lost to the Diamondbacks, squashing the hopes and dreams of 99 years; the 30th Annual Chicago Marathon was cancelled after record high heat and the death of a runner and other heat related injuries;

but wait -- da Bears won?

After five turnovers, the Packers gave up their "dino egg" undefated record at home. The Bears won 27-20 after coming from behind in the first half. Phew!

I'm glad not everyone has to fly the 'L' flag in Chicago this week and look forward to next year for a knock out Cubs season and cooler marathon.

HATE CREDIT CARD JUNK MAIL?

I hate credit card junk mail. Not only is it annoying, but it makes me paranoid of identity theft.

In an article from CNNMoney.com, I found a way to curb this mail for five years:

Step 1: Dry up junk mail! Thieves use your pre-approved credit-card offers to open accounts in your name, which is the hardest type of ID theft to detect. Opt out of receiving the junk mail by calling 888-567-8688, a service run by the credit bureaus. Select option three to permanently remove your name from marketing lists (you can always opt in later).

Dahlia

Dahlia's, what a beautiful fall flower! It looks so lovely in arrangements. I think it's my *new* favorite.

And there's more...

I forgot to mention we went to Bye, Bye Liver (hilarious, go if you get the opp) and went to Wisconsin for a week. AND there is still a week of summer left, with awesome weather. Nice.

Tuesday, September 11, 2007

Goodbye, summer.

A girl hurries by me to get home wearing a tank top, jeans and flip flops yesterday at 6:30 pm. She looks chilly. She must be thinking to herself, "It wasn't this cold when I left this morning..." It was 62 degrees and rainy.

I look down. I'm wearing a zip up hoodie and jeans -- and kind of cold myself. Yup. Summer is over. When did this happen? We try and think it's summer for as long as we can, until tank tops make us cold and flip flops aren't the best choice. That happened yesterday.

Which made me think: What did I even do this summer? Did I have any fun?

Parks: Lincoln Park, Oz, Grant & Millenium at least once every weekend. I'm a Park Junkie, what can I say?
Concerts: Lolla, jazz concert at Andy's
Beach/Lake: North Ave, Lincoln Park waterfront picnic, Lakeview fireworks
City: Navy Pier, Lincoln Park Zoo & Conservatory, Sky Deck @ Sears Tower, Cool Globes
Museums: Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum
Shopping: Where didn't we go shopping is the question. Mostly on Clark, though.
Events: Air & Water Show, Taste of Chicago, Fourth of July fireworks, Harry Potter @ Navy Pier IMAX, first Cubs game :), Taste of Lincoln
Food: Too much stuffed pizza, hot dogs with the works and Olde Style to count. All the Chicago favorites, what can you expect?

Good times. Bring on the fall.

Bad biker.

I understand that the sign refers to no bike riding on the sidewalk, but still -- it's funny, eh?

LDW

I had an amazing Labor Day Weekend, filled full of nothing but hanging out in Lincoln Park, going to the zoo and conservatory and just relaxing by the lake.

Lolla

The entrance

Snow Patrol

Muse

I went to Lollapalooza on Saturday -- saw Pete Yorn, Stephen Marley, The Roots, STS9, Spoon, Muse amoung others. Snow Patrol played the best show by far. Marley was good but not as good as Damien. The Roots played virutally the same show they did earlier this year in Denver at The Fillmore. I was pretty tipsy and had lost all of my friends by Muse, but I remember the light show/video boards were pretty awesome.

Baby's first Cubs game

Someone give me a bib! I went to my first Cubs game as a Chicago resident yesterday. I ate a foot-long hot dog, washed it down with Old Style and then we celebrated the win over the Phillies by going to Sluggers and Goose Island.

FedEx-ciddent

Two days after being fixed for attempted theft (see report) , my parked car was hit by a FedEx truck. This is the note I found. Apparently, Fed Ex drivers don't carry around pens and paper. Just pencils and wood chips.

This sign is better.

Please. Don't cross the street with your lightsaber and a third leg.

No high heels! What?!

This sign makes me sad. I don't like it, not at all.

Bowie In Space

I can't get over this show. I look forward to it every week.

Opera House @ night

I took this picture in January. I'm getting really ancy to go on another trip and keep looking through old pictures. American Airlines now flies non-stop from Chicago to Narita -- a reminder that keeps popping up in my head every so often...

Taste

So, as Chicago newbies we went to the Taste of Chicago unprepared for the crowds and vast amounts of water we probably needed. I still had fun eating Chicago, though. I think I tried at least two types of pizza, ice cream, cheese bread, toasted ravioli, pad thai, sherbert, watermelon, cheesecake, salad...I was the The Very Hungry Catepillar.

Monk...fish

I recently ordered Monkfish sashimi, not really knowing what kind of fish it was. I thought it sounded funny at the time; This fish does not look like he is into any funny business.
You can read more about this beautiful creature who is also known as an anglerfish.
I'm going to stick to salmon and tuna for awhile.

Super cool glue

I saw this car on the beach in Santa Barbara last summer. I really can't describe it, but that's a lot of super glue.

Sail away, sail away, sail away...

Oh, how I want a sailboat. I am jealous everytime I look out my window.

Wine rack

Tyson made me a wine rack out of an old
general store crate he found in his basement. Sweet!

Amurrica! This truck was decked out for the 4th.

Chicago has become a destination for all things Fourth of July, beating out Las Vegas in recent years.
